Pencalenick Beach Day 15.6.18

The diary was cleared for the day enabling Truro’s Pencalenick Special School in its entirety to spend several hours on Gyllyingvase Beach as part of the Curriculum supporting the I.C.E. programme (promoting Independence, Communication and Emotional Development), also to have a fun day with their much loved Headmistress, Helen Campbell who is retiring this July.

From Caretakers, Admin, Boarding Team to Pupils and Teachers, all were invited but kept the day a SURPRISE from Mrs Campbell who was informed the day before. The day was full of fun and learning from rock pooling, crabbing, walking, paddling, swimming, sandcastles to beach games and spontaneous sing-a-longs plus picnic lunch and ice-creams; then returning to Tresillian near Truro for the end of the day.

This term Pencalenick has arranged all sorts of events to celebrate and show appreciation for Helen’s commitment and love of the School and everyone in it.

On 18th May, Helen took part in a days canoeing from Trelissick Gardens along the River Fal with Canoe Cornwall.

On 18th June, Lunch at the Alverton Manor.

On 13th July the Annual Strawberry Fayre at School raised an astonishing £1,726.

Helen has made a Life Long career from Special Education and recently won the prestigious Life Time Achievement Award at Truro Cathedral in May this year. The Judges said…

“she has honed her skills so that they can intervene in a seemingly catastrophic pupil or staff crisis and calmly make the impossible, possible ….. this is the final year of a career selflessly dedicated to fulfilment to those others struggle to help and Helen deserves recognition for a life’s work”.

Pencalenick had a day out with a very special Lady, who loves the colour purple and always wore her ‘superhero cape’.
