At Pencalenick we have created our own bespoke assessment tool to capture social and emotional development under the headings of Independence, Communication and Emotions (ICE), these aspects will be graded on a points scale. Our new system will become part of our SIMs database, an electronic system that records a range of information. Each term tutors will assess where individuals are against the ICE criteria; over time as the pupils develop their skills, progress will be shown. This will allow us to capture social and emotional progression for our pupils – enabling staff to develop a detailed picture of pupils that could be seen to develop overtime. Greater understanding of the abilities of students, trends in development and barriers will then be captured and a pool of knowledge developed to enhance our teaching practice.
