Head Teacher - Curnow School

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a highly acclaimed special school into its next stage of development and to play a key role in the future leadership of the Special Partnership Trust.

Curnow School provides specialist education for pupils who have severe learning difficulties. Some have physical and sensory difficulties while others have an autistic spectrum condition.

Trustees are seeking to appoint a new Headteacher for Curnow School who shares their ambition to constantly progress and enhance the provision so that it continues to improve outcomes for pupils and its community. Curnow School is located on two sites in the Redruth area of Cornwall. Curnow School provides support to other schools within the Trust and schools in their locality, especially in the areas of assessment and curriculum planning. All aspects of the educational offer at Curnow School have been rated as outstanding by Ofsted in 2013 and again in 2019.

The school is split across two sites; Curnow Lower School is on the same site as Illogan Primary School. This purpose-built provision was completed in September 2014 and offers our young learners an environment which is conducive to their needs and one which will help us to meet our aspirational target of inclusive learning. Curnow Lower School provides a happy environment where all children belong, have fun, progress and are proud of their achievements. Curnow School has an active Early Years department as part of the lower school offer. We strive to create an inclusive learning experience by bringing together the two school communities of Curnow and Illogan, enabling wider friendships to develop and grow, thereby underpinning the core values held within our school.

Curnow Upper School remains housed on the Drump Road site in Redruth. At Curnow Upper School we continue to build upon the fantastic progress made at Lower school with a clear focus on preparing all students well for their futures. Through high quality bespoke environments and resources, we can ensure students experience a practical, interest-led timetable of activities which promote independence and exploration. Post 16 is available on this site. Ofsted rated Curnow School as an Outstanding school (June 2019). You can read the report on the school website: download.asp (curnow.cornwall.sch.uk)

Curnow School is part of the Special Partnership Trust – so it works closely with a group of specialist providers – sharing skills, knowledge and expertise to continue to develop the offer in place for staff and pupils. At the Special Partnership Trust, we go beyond what’s expected in everything we do. We give our staff the autonomy to make a real, tangible difference to the lives of our learners. By empowering all pupils, parents, and staff, we strengthen our community and lay the foundations to fully prepare young people to be successful, achieving, fulfilled adults.
