About Us

Preparing Our Pupils for Life

At Pencalenick School, we believe every child deserves to be seen, celebrated and to feel that they truly belong. Our moral purpose is clear: to prepare children and young people for adulthood and a life of choice and opportunity. As Headteacher, I am incredibly proud of our caring, ambitious and inclusive community, where pupils are supported to feel safe, valued and confident as they grow, learn and develop.

Pencalenick is a specialist school for pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We provide a broad, engaging curriculum that supports academic achievement while also developing social skills, independence and resilience. Our approach is pupil-centred and built around recognising strengths, removing barriers to learning and nurturing aspiration, so that every pupil can experience success.

We support 150 secondary-aged pupils on site and oversee four Area Resource Bases (ARBs) across Cornwall, working in partnership with mainstream schools to provide high-quality, inclusive specialist provision for children with complex or additional learning needs. Through these partnerships, we help pupils to develop confidence, belonging and meaningful connections within their local communities.

Set within a beautiful historic site on the outskirts of Truro, Pencalenick offers an inspiring environment that reflects our ethos of aspiration, care and challenge. Our dedicated and highly skilled staff team work closely with pupils and families to ensure learning is meaningful, purposeful and tailored to individual needs.

Our curriculum offers clear pathways to accreditation, including ASDAN, Entry Level qualifications, Functional Skills and GCSEs, alongside opportunities to develop confidence, independence and essential life skills. Pupils may also benefit from our boarding provision, which supports social development, independence and preparation for adulthood.
