Heligan

Miss Verran,
Heligan Class Teacher

Heligan class is a mixed age group of pupils (Year 7 to Year 11) who all benefit from a focus on visual and kinaesthetic learning strategies. Learning is hands on and the classroom is a total communication environment using speech, signs and symbols. Heligan class follows a semi-formal curriculum which focusses on the core areas of Maths, English and PSHE. We have a topic for each term that incorporates elements of RE, Science, Humanities, Life Skills and Creative Arts.

Pupils in Heligan have regular opportunities to go shopping, visit the park and other local visits to practise social interactions and confidence. We love taking part in The National Gallery's 'Take One Picture' project each year and have been selected to have our work displayed in the last two exhibitions in London. We take part in Disability Sport ProjectAbility events.  This year we have represented Pencalenick at a Boccia tournament. Our favourite activities last year were bowling with ProjectAbility, power boating and sailing with Mylor Sailing School, taking part in the Pirates of Pencalenick and attending Blue Light Day and meeting lots of emergency services people.
